My main advice for people memorizing scripture (particularly, long passages) is to speak it out loud. It creates muscle memory. It prepares you to present the text orally. Helps learn the inflections and meaning of the text.

James Jordan gave a lecture once on the benefits of hearing the word read aloud. In it he gave examples for how the Scriptures can or ought to be audibly read.

I listened to a guy simply recite 1 Cor as his sermon once. He had been working on a commentary and memorized the book as a result. The flow of the text was made more clear listening to him than by any written outline or reading I'd done. Inspired me to do the same with Ephesians.
